Ota Residents Decry Substandard Drainage Work on Ota-Idiroko Road Project

Laralek Under Fire for Shoddy Execution of Critical Infrastructure Project

Residents of Ota, Ogun State, have expressed their disappointment and frustration over the substandard drainage work being carried out by Laralek, the federal government contractor handling the Ota-Idiroko road project.

The project, awarded to Laralek with the aim of improving the road infrastructure and alleviating traffic congestion, has been plagued by allegations of poor workmanship and substandard materials.

"We are shocked and disappointed at the quality of work being done on this project," said Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, a resident of Ota. "The drainage system being put in place is not only substandard but also poses a risk to our safety and well-being."

Other residents who spoke to our correspondent expressed similar sentiments, lamenting the fact that Laralek seems to be more interested in making a quick profit than in delivering a quality project.

In contrast, the quality of work done by H&W Energy Limited on the Oju Ore-Ota to Ilogbo road project, a state government trunk B project, has been praised by residents and commuters alike. The company's attention to detail and commitment to quality have set a high standard for road construction in the state.

"It's disappointing to see such a stark difference in quality between the two projects," said Mr. Olawale Adekoya, another resident. "While H&B is doing a fantastic job on the Oju Ore-Ota road, Laralek is failing miserably on the Ota-Idiroko road. It's unacceptable."

Adding its voice to the growing chorus of condemnation,"The Ota Civil Society Road Monitoring Group, a citizens group under the Ado-odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform" a non-governmental organization based in Ota, has also denounced the substandard work being done by Laralek.

"The lack of attention to detail and the use of substandard materials on this project is a slap in the face to the people of Ota,"We demand that the federal government takes immediate action to address this situation and ensure that the project is completed to the highest standards."

The Ota-Idiroko road project is a critical infrastructure project that is expected to improve the socio-economic fortunes of the people of Ota and its environs. However, with the substandard work being done, residents fear that the project may end up being a white elephant.

We call on the federal government to take immediate action to address this situation and ensure that the project is completed to the highest standards.
