Ado-Odo Ota Farmers Petition Senator Yayi Over Seized Empowerment Tractors, Custodian Alleges Harassment and Detention




ADO-ODO OTA, OGUN STATE – Farmers in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have petitioned Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi over the alleged seizure of two tractors donated under the Yayi Agriculture Empowerment Programme.


In a petition dated August 18, 2026, addressed to the Senator and copied to the Chairman of the Yayi Agriculture Empowerment Program and the Area Commander, Sango Ota, members of the Ado-Odo Ota Farmers Forum alleged that the tractors, which were handed over to them in April 2025, have been withdrawn from farming activities.


According to the petition, one of the tractors was in the custody of Comrade Busayo Soroyeun, whose name appears on the official list of beneficiaries obtained by Alagbawi News as the representative for farmers in the local government.


The Forum alleged that the tractor was taken away on April 28, 2026, and was subsequently kept at the Sango Ota Police Station. The petition further alleged that the withdrawal was ordered by Dr. Angel Adelaja Kuye, Convener of Farmers for Progress in Ado-Odo Ota LGA, and was carried out by one Muiz Kolawole in company of police officers.


Speaking on the development, Comrade Busayo Soroyeun said she was contacted by the office of Senator Yayi to give an account of how the tractor was being utilized. She said she ensured the tractor was accessible to farmers and contributed to farming activities within the local government.


Soroyeun further alleged that she was humiliated, arrested and detained at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, for insisting that the tractor must serve its intended purpose.


"My only crime was standing my ground that the tractor must serve the purpose it was meant for and not otherwise. Since the tractor arrived, I have made it accessible to farmers and it has contributed immensely to farming activities. But because I didn't allow them to take it away from us, I was arrested and detained at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran by someone who is power drunk. I was humiliated and treated like a criminal for committing no crime," she said.


Information gathered revealed that the tractor, while at the Sango Ota Police Station, was released to an unknown group to be taken to an unknown destination. Upon getting wind of the development, Comrade Soroyeun was said to have mobilised farmers to block the movement. The tractor was retrieved and driven to the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Secretariat for safe keeping.


It was after this action that she was arrested. The Forum also claimed that two other farmers who were in charge of the tractor were detained at Eleweran.


The tractor is currently at the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Secretariat.


The affected farmer groups listed in the petition include Ona Ara Agbedotun Farmers Group, Ota; Irewunmi Farmers Group, Ado-Odo Farm Settlement; Ifejoba Agbelere Farmers Group, Ota; Agbeyemi Farmers Group, Alapoti; Nigerian Females in Agriculture, Ota; Centre of Excellence Farmers Group, Ota; Agbeloro Farmers Group; New Beginning Farmers Group and Egun Iyesi Farmers Group, among others.


The Forum has appealed to Senator Adeola to intervene and facilitate the release of the tractors to enable farmers continue their farming activities.
