Ota-Awori Youths Demand Reps Seat for Ota in 2027, Endorse Larrybash

The Ota Awori Youth Movement has called for the House of Representatives seat in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency to be ceded to the Ota axis in 2027, citing a long-standing imbalance in political representation.

The group made the demand on Thursday at a press conference held at Ijamido Town Hall Ota, accusing political stakeholders of abandoning an unwritten rotational arrangement between Ota and Ado/Igbesa state constituencies.

According to the youths, Ota has produced a federal lawmaker only twice since 1999, while Ado/Igbesa has held the seat for most of the past 28 years, despite Ota having a larger population and voter strength.

They argued that the continued dominance of the seat by Ado/Igbesa has weakened Ota’s political influence and contributed to poor development, stressing that federal representation offers greater access to projects, resources and national decision-making.

“The imbalance has relegated Ota to the background politically and developmentally,” the group said.

The movement also announced its endorsement of High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, popularly known as Larrybash, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The youths described Larrybash as an experienced community leader with strong grassroots support across Awori land, citing his roles in traditional leadership, conflict resolution and community development, as well as his advocacy for youth empowerment and inclusive growth.

They pledged to mobilise voters and resources to support his candidacy but warned that they would back any political party that aligns with Ota’s interests if their demand for fairness is ignored.

The group appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and APC leaders to respect the principle of rotation and ensure equitable representation in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 polls.

The press conference was held at Ijamido Town Hall, after which participants embarked on a peaceful rally to the palace of the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Abdul-Kabir Adeyemi Obalanlege (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode). They were warmly received by the Onikotun of Otun-Ota, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdul-Hakeem Odunaro, who assured them that their message would be duly delivered to the Olota of Ota.
