LAWYER DRAGS OGUN COMMUNITIES, IBEDC, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO COURT OVER ALLEGED CORRUPT PRACTICES
A landmark lawsuit instituted by Barrister Oladipupo Osinubi has sent shockwaves through the communities of Promise CDA, Indomitable CDA, Model CDA, and Royal Promise CDA in Ogun State. The lawsuit, which also implicates IBEDC, the Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Ogun State, and the Attorney General of Ogun State, alleges widespread corrupt practices and abuse of power.
At the heart of the lawsuit is Barrister Osinubi's own experience with the communities. He alleges that he was asked to pay a hefty fee for the repair of a transformer that was not even located in his community. When he questioned why he had to pay for the repair of the transformer, his queries were met with silence.
But that was not the only issue. Barrister Osinubi also accuses the communities of disconnecting him from the power supply without justification. As a customer of IBEDC, he argues that only IBEDC has the authority to disconnect his house from the power supply.
The lawsuit highlights a broader pattern of corruption and abuse of power within the communities. Barrister Osinubi alleges that the communities have been engaging in extortionate practices, charging exorbitant fees for electricity connection and other services. He also accuses the communities of operating without transparency or accountability, making it impossible for residents to know how their money is being spent.
The first hearing of the case came up today, Monday, December 9, 2024. Unfortunately, the defendants failed to appear in court, leading to an adjournment until February 19, 2025, to allow them time to file their defense.
As the case unfolds, it is clear that the stakes are high. The lawsuit has the potential to expose widespread corruption and abuse of power within the communities, and to hold those responsible to account.
For Barrister Osinubi, the lawsuit is a matter of principle. "I am not just fighting for my own rights," he said. "I am fighting for the rights of all residents who have been exploited and oppressed by these communities. It is time for transparency and accountability to prevail."
