Fear Grips PDP Candidate as Absence Raises Eyebrows at Ado-Odo/Ota Stakeholder Roundtable Discussion
A breakfast meeting was held yesterday Thursday, November 7, 2024 between chairmanship candidates for the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government election. In attendance were Hon. Sulaimon Ramon, candidate of the Action Alliance Party (AA), and Hon. Wasiu Adewale Lawal, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Unfortunately, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was absent.
The meeting, organized by the African Foundation for Environment and Development (AFED) in conjunction with the Ado-Odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform, aimed to discuss the candidates' plans and priorities for the upcoming election.
During the meeting, both candidates shared a unified vision for Ado-Odo/Ota's transformative development. They emphasized the need for holistic empowerment, prioritizing education, healthcare, and economic empowerment to elevate the quality of life for residents. They also vowed to revolutionize the local government's physical landscape through enhanced road networks, transportation systems, and public facilities, stimulating economic growth and connectivity.
Additionally, the candidates pledged to cultivate a thriving agricultural sector by supporting local farmers and initiatives, ensuring food security and job creation. They further committed to principled governance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective resource management to drive progress and foster trust among stakeholders.
As the local government with the largest industrial area and highest number of industries in Ogun State, Ado-Odo/Ota generates significant Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state. With an expansive area of 878 km² and a rapidly growing population exceeding 2 million, the local government is primarily agrarian, producing cash and food crops, and mineral resources including kaolin, silica sand, gypsum, and glass sand.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns and expectations for the local government's future development.
