"Ogun Government's Silence on Otta Rainstorm Devastation Sparks Anger

Residents of Ado Odo Otta local government are counting their losses after a devastating rainstorm on Sunday, April 21, 2024, which damaged millions of naira worth of properties, including electric poles and cables, leaving the town without electricity. Despite the severity of the damage, the state government has yet to issue an official statement, sparking disappointment and anger among residents.

Some residents expressed frustration that despite the Deputy Governor hailing from the town, the state government has been silent on the natural disaster. However, some politicians, including Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Honorable Tunji Akinosi, Honorable Sheriff Abiodun Yusuf, and Honorable Sheriff Musa, the local government chairman, have released personal statements and visited the scene to sympathize with the affected people.

The monarch of the town, H.R.M Professor Abdul Kabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, has also spoken out. Residents are questioning the lack of response from the state government and wondering if there is a state emergency agency like in other states that can respond to such situations. They are also asking why the government has not contacted the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assistance, which could have brought relief to those affected.

As of the time of filing this report, fallen poles are being evacuated from the roads with the support of Honorable Tunji Akinosi, the federal lawmaker representing Ado Odo Ota federal constituency in Abuja."
